(ASA Press release) - At the July Annual Meeting of the Autism Society of America, the membership expressed their concerns about having Autism Awareness Month in January.

Following the meeting, the chapters were sent a survey to determine what month they would prefer for Autism Awareness Month. The consensus was for the month to be moved to one of the Spring months.

The results of this survey were taken to the ASA Board of Directors for a vote and based on the feedback they received from the membership, they decided that April will now be designated as National Autism Awareness Month effective in 1999.

If you would like materials for NAAM, please contact the ASA at 800-328-8476 ext. 107 (in early February). ASA local chapters need not contact us for information as they will be sent an order form for materials.
