      BIRMINGHAM (UK), July 27th - On October 6th and 7th 1999, a conference will be held in The Chamberlain Hotel, Birmingham UK, with the title From The Cradle To The Grave - Violence Against Disabled Children and Adults.

      This important conference will focus on all forms of physical, sexual and emotional violence and neglect towards disabled children and adults. International speakers will share current research and their new ideas for practice development. Workshops will give participants opportunities to reflect on their own practice, and encourage a positive framework for moving services forward.

      The conference will be addressed by Sir William Utting (photo), and speakers will include Patricia Sullivan, Dick Sobsey, Lydia Zijal and Jenny Morris.

      Books

      One of the conference speakers, Dr. Dick Sobsey from Canada, wrote the book Violence and Abuse in the Lives of People With Disabilities: The End of Silent Acceptance? The book was given a maximum rating by a reader at amazon.com.

      Another speaker, Jenny Morris, wrote Pride Against Prejudice - Transforming Attitudes to Disabilities.
